Microsoft has recently announced Dynamics SL 7.0 Feature Pack 1 (“FP1”) which is now available. Not only does FP1 contain software updates for Dynamics SL Version 7.0, it also delivers entirely new functionality that will significantly enhance your Dynamics SL system. Read on to learn about these fantastic new features.
The FP1 Objective
The overall goal of FP1 is to empower your people to be even more effective in their roles by improving efficiency and strengthening internal controls. To accomplish these objectives, FP1 introduces a new web-based application for time entry, new “Hard Close” functionality that will eliminate posting errors to the wrong accounting period, stronger integration with Microsoft Project Server, and terrific enhancements to Field Service Management. So, let’s dig into the details.
Period-End Closes Become “Harder” . . . . But It’s a GOOD Thing
We’re not talking “harder” as in more difficult or time consuming; quite the opposite. FP1 introduces new “Hard Close” functionality that prevents improper posting of transactions to prior periods by leveraging new security features and user rights. The system administrator has full control over determining whether transactions can be entered for prior periods and, if so, which users have permission to do so. Hard Close will strengthen your internal accounting controls and improves accuracy by eliminating posting mishaps.
Tighter Integration with Microsoft Office Project
“Project Connector 2007” for FP1 allows the Dynamics SL Project Series and Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 to interact much more closely. Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 is a project management solution that utilizes both a web interface and Microsoft Office Project Professional on your desktop. Project Server stores project information in a central database which, using appropriate security, can be easily accessed by project managers, team members and others needing to view centralized project information. With the tighter integration, here are just a few of the tasks you can now perform
from within Microsoft Project:
• Create Dynamics SL project and task information.
• Calculate the labor budget for an entire project using SL labor rates.
• View net profit at the account, project, or task levels.
For stronger internal controls, one-way integration from Dynamics SL to Microsoft Project automatically adds employees as project resources to ensure that only active employees can be added to a project.
